Multiplying Integer Game
In this Multiply Integers game, your goal is to master the rules of signs while practicing your multiplication tables. There are two modes: Duo Mode and Chain Mode. In the chain mode you would need to multiply more than 2 integers. Scroll down for a detailed explanation.

How to Play the Multiplying Integer Game

  1. Choose Your Mode:
Duo Mode: You get two integers. This is perfect for practicing the basic sign rules.
Chain Mode: You get 3 or 4 integers in a row. This tests your ability to track signs over a longer calculation.
  2. Solve the Math: Multiply the absolute values (the numbers themselves) first, then determine the sign.
  3. Enter Your Answer: Type the result into the box. If the answer is negative, don’t forget the minus sign (-).
  4. Score: Your score is tracked as Correct / Total Attempts. To get a “Perfect” score, you must get the answer right on your very first try.

The Math Logic: Sign Rules
Multiplying integers is actually very similar to multiplying the positive whole numbers you already know. The only “new” part is determining whether your final answer should be positive or negative.

  1. Duo Mode (2 Integers)
When multiplying just two numbers, follow these simple pairings:
Same Signs → Positive answer (+)
    (+) × (+) = (+)
    (-) × (-) = (+)
Different Signs → Negative answer (-)
    (+) × (-) = (-)
    (-) × (+) = (-)

  2. Chain Mode (3 or more Integers)
For a long chain of numbers, you don’t have to go step-by-step. Just count the negative signs:
If the count is EVEN (0, 2, 4…), the answer is Positive.
If the count is ODD (1, 3, 5…), the answer is Negative.
    Example: (-2) × 3 × (-4) × (-1)
    Multiply the numbers: 2 × 3 × 4 × 1 = 24.
Count the negatives: There are 3 (an odd number).
    Result: -24.
