How to Play
The Objective: In the center of the workspace, you will see a math problem containing two monomials multiplied together, for example, (4x3) · 2x5. Your goal is to simplify this product into a single term.
The Input Fields: Instead of typing a messy algebraic string, the interface separates your answer into two dedicated scaffolding boxes:
Coefficient: Type the final front number (the constant) here.
Exponent: Type the final power for the base x here.
Verification: Press Enter or click Verify Simplified Product.
Immediate Feedback: If you are correct, your score increases by 100 points, and you can advance. If your answer has a discrepancy, the game reads your input and tells you exactly which part went wrong (e.g., if your coefficient is right but your exponent rule failed), alongside a complete step-by-step breakdown of the correct path.
Leveling Up: As you advance, the game automatically scales the difficulty. Early levels feature clean, positive integers. Mid-to-late levels introduce negative coefficients, implicit exponents of 1 (like x), and zero-power identities (x0).
How the Math Works
Multiplying monomials requires you to handle two completely different types of numbers at the same time: coefficients (the large numbers in front) and exponents (the small powers up top).
Because they play by different mathematical rules, you must process them in separate, isolated steps.
Step 1: Multiply the Coefficients
Coefficients are regular integers. They do exactly what the math operator tells them to do: they multiply normally.
New Coefficient = (First Coefficient) × (Second Coefficient)
Step 2: Add the Exponents (The Product Rule)
Exponents follow the Product Rule of Exponents. When you multiply powers that share the exact same base (x), you do not multiply the exponents.
Instead, you add them together. This counts the total number of times x is being multiplied by itself.
xa · xb = xa+b
A Complete Example Analysis
Let’s take the problem:(3x4) · (-2x3)
Process the Coefficients:
Multiply 3 and -2 normally.
3 × (-2) = -6
Process the Exponents:
Add the power vectors 4 and 3 together.
x4 · x3 = x4+3 = x7
Unify the Monomial: Bring the pieces back together for your final simplified product.-6x7
Advanced Exceptions to Watch Out For
The Invisible Exponent (x):
If a variable has no visible exponent, it is an implicit power of 1. For example, 5x is mathematically written as 5x1.
The Zero Exponent (x0):
Any non-zero base raised to the power of 0 is equal to 1 (x0 = 1). If your final exponent calculation lands on 0, the variable base drops out completely because it has been simplified down to a constant multiplication.
