Multiply m and cm Game
This Multiply m and cm Game is a math challenge where you take a single measurement and multiply it to find the total length of several identical pieces. Scroll down for a detailed explanation.
How to Play the Multiply m and cm Game
Read the Problem
The game shows you a measurement in meters (m) and centimeters (cm), followed by a multiplier (how many of those items you have).
Example: 4 m 65 cm multiplied by 3.
Multiply the Centimeters
Multiply the centimeter number by your multiplier first.
65 cm × 3 = 195 cm.
Regroup
In the metric system, 100 cm = 1 meter.
Look at your centimeter total. If it is 100 or more, “bundle” the hundreds into meters.
Since 195 cm contains one hundred, it becomes 1 meter and 95 cm.
Multiply the Meters
Now, multiply the original meter number by the multiplier.
4 m × 3 = 12 m.
Combine Your Totals
Add the meters you “carried over” from Step 3 to your meter total.
12 m + 1 m (carried) = 13 m.
Final Answer to type in: 13 m and 95 cm.
Example:
Problem: 2 m 50 cm × 4
Multiply cm: 50 × 4 = 200 cm.
Regroup cm: 200 cm is exactly 2 meters and 0 cm.
Multiply m: 2 × 4 = 8 m.
Add Carry: 8 + 2 = 10 m.
Result: 10 m 0 cm.
