Multiply km and m Game
This Multiply km and m Game is a math challenge where you take a single measurement and multiply it to find the total distance of a journey. Scroll down for a detailed explanation.

How to Play the Multiply km and m Game

  1. Read the Problem
The game displays a distance in kilometers (km) and meters (m), along with a multiplier (the number of times that route is traveled).
    Example: 12 km 450 m multiplied by 3.

  2. Multiply the Meters
Start by multiplying the meter number by your multiplier.
    450 m × 3 = 1,350 m.

  3. Regroup
In the metric system, 1,000 meters = 1 kilometer.
If your meter total is 1,000 or more, “bundle” the thousands into kilometers.
Take 1,350 m. Since there is a “1” in the thousands place, it becomes 1 km and 350 m.

  4. Multiply the Kilometers
Now, multiply the original kilometer number by the multiplier.
    12 km × 3 = 36 km.

  5. Final Arrival
Add the kilometers you “carried over” from Step 3 to your kilometer product.
    36 km + 1 km (carried) = 37 km.
    Final Answer: 37 km and 350 m.

Example:
Problem: 5 km 600 m × 2
Multiply meters: 600 × 2 = 1,200 m.
Regroup meters: 1,200 m becomes 1 km and 200 m.
Multiply km: 5 × 2 = 10 km.
Add Carry: 10 + 1 = 11 km.
Result: 11 km 200 m.
