Missing Number Game
Welcome to Missing Number Game. This game is designed to help kindergarten students learn to find the missing number in a counting line from 1 to 20. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

 

 

How to play the Missing Number Game

1. Start the Mission: Click the big “PLAY GAME” button. This turns on the voice and sets up your first counting line.
   

2. Look at the Line: You will see four boxes in a row. Some have numbers, but one has a “?” inside. This is the Missing Number.
   

3. Count Along: Look at the numbers that are there. For example, if you see “5, 6, ?, 8”, count them out loud to figure out what goes in the middle.
   

4. Pick the Star: At the bottom of the screen, you will see three blue squares with different numbers.
   Touch or click the number you think is missing.
   Listen: The computer will tell you if you are right. If you click the wrong one, it will fade away so you can try again.
   

5. Celebration: When you find the right number, it will pop into the line and light up green. A big “HOORAY!” screen will appear. Click “NEXT PUZZLE” to get a new set of numbers.
   

For the Teacher

1. Skill focus: This game practices forward number sequences and helps children recognize that each number has a specific “neighbor."
   

2. Range: The game automatically stays between 1 and 20, which is perfect for kindergarten mastery.
   

3. Self-Correction: The game doesn’t “end” on a wrong answer; it simply removes the incorrect choice, encouraging the student to re-evaluate the sequence.
