How to Play the Length Word Problem Game
Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Read the Story: Look at the text in the dashed box. It will describe a situation involving objects like ribbons, pencils, or building blocks.
  2. Find the Numbers: Identify the two (or three) measurements given in centimeters (cm).
  3. Choose Your Operation:
    Addition (+): If the story says things are “end-to-end,” “altogether,” “total,” or “grew longer,” you add the numbers.
    Subtraction (-): If the story says “shorter,” “cut off,” “left,” or asks “how much wider,” you subtract the numbers.
  4. Solve and Enter: Type your answer into the white box and click Check Answer.
  5. Listen and Learn:
    Ding! 🌟 A correct answer earns a point. Click “Next Problem” to continue.
    Buzz! ❌ An incorrect answer means you should try the calculation again.

Visualizing the Problems
For Addition: Imagine two pieces of string being taped together. You are finding the new, longer length.
For Subtraction: Imagine a tall flower. If a bug eats the top, you are finding what is left over.

Tip: Key Words
“How much wider/longer than…” is a signal to subtract the smaller number from the bigger one to find the difference.
“Stack them” means you are adding the heights together to find the total height of the tower.
