How to Play the Game

  1. Examine the Dataset: Review the unsorted numbers in the dataset box. Check whether the total count of values (n) is odd or even.
  2. Order the Numbers: On scratch paper, rewrite the dataset from least to greatest.
  3. Determine Q1 and Q3:
    Odd Datasets (n=7): Identify the middle value (Median) and set it aside. Find the middle of the lower 3 numbers (Q1) and the middle of the upper 3 numbers (Q3).
    Even Datasets (n=8): Divide the numbers into lower and upper halves of 4. Find the average of the middle two values in the lower half (Q1) and upper half (Q3).
  4. Calculate IQR: Subtract Q1 from Q3 (IQR = Q3 - Q1).
  5. Check Your Answer: Type your value into the box and press Submit (or hit Enter). View your updated Correct / Attempted score and read the mathematical solution panel to confirm your steps.
