Why FreeCell is Unique: Over 99% Winnable.
Because there are no hidden cards or lucky draws, almost every single deal in FreeCell can be solved with the right strategy. If you hit a dead end, it’s not because the deck was stacked against you—it just means you need to rethink your path. It is the perfect daily brain teaser for fans of logic puzzles and strategic card games.

How to Play FreeCell Solitaire: Rules & Basics
The objective is to move all 52 cards into the four Foundation piles at the top right, building each suit in ascending order from Ace to King.

  • The Tableau:
The tableau consists of 8 columns. Cards in the tableau are stacked by descending ranks of alternating color (red/black). Only one card may be moved at a time (but see the later section on supermoves). Any card may be moved into an empty tableau column.

  • The Free Cells:
This is your secret weapon. You have 4 temporary holding slots (the “Free Cells”) at the top left. You can park any single card here to clear roadblocks and uncover hidden cards underneath.

  • Empty Columns:
If you completely clear a tableau column, it creates a powerful open space. Any card or valid sequence can be moved into an empty column to help rearrange your board.

  • To Win
To win the game, stack all the cards to the foundations in ascending order by suit.

Top Tips to Win FreeCell Solitaire
Hunt for Aces:
Scan the board immediately to free up your Aces and low-numbered cards so you can start building your foundations early.

Keep Cells Clear:
Treat your free cells like a premium resource. Don’t fill them up all at once, or you’ll quickly paralyze your ability to move card sequences. The number of cards you can move at one time depends on how many free cells or empty columns you have available. Keep your cells empty to move long, organized sequences.

Plan Steps Ahead:
Because you can see every card on the table, take a moment to chart out your first three or four moves before moving a single card.

Shortcut notes:

  • Supermoves: Even though the rules only allow one card to be moved at a time, this app implements supermoves, which allows several cards in sequence to be moved, if there are enough empty free cells and/or columns to make the intermediate moves. The maximum number of cards that may be moved to a filled column is \(C = (N+1) \cdot 2^M\), where \(N\) is the number of empty free cells, and \(M\) is the number of empty columns. The maximum number that may be moved to an empty column is \(C/2\).
  • Double click: Double-clicking on a card will try to move it to the foundations if possible, or a free cell otherwise.
