Fraction of a Number Worksheet/Game
Welcome to the Fraction of a Number Challenge! This is an interactive game to help you find the fraction of a whole number. Divide the whole number by the denominator of the fraction and then multiply by the numerator of the fraction. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

How to Play
Step 1: Divide into Equal Piles
Look at the central challenge board. You will see a fraction, the word “of”, and a whole target number.
Your first step is always to look at the bottom number of the fraction (the denominator).
Divide your whole number by this bottom number. This tells you exactly how much fits into a single, equal slice (or a single unit fraction).
Example: For \(\frac{2}{3}\) of 12, think: 12 ÷ 3 = 4. So, each pile has 4 items.

Step 2: Multiply by what you Keep
Now look at the top number of the fraction (the numerator). This tells you how many of those equal piles you are actually taking. Multiply your answer from Step 1 by this top number.
Continuing the example: Since the top number is 2, you take your pile size (4) and multiply it by 2: 4 × 2 = 8. Your final target answer is 8.
