Flip Turn Slide Worksheet/Game
Welcome to the Flip Turn Slide Challenge! This an interactive puzzle game that challenges your spatial reasoning. In this game, you’ll practice identifying the three fundamental transformations: reflections (flips), rotations (turns), and translations (slides). Using an asymmetrical “L” shape to make changes easy to spot, this tool provides a fun, hands-on way to visualize how shapes move across a plane. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

How to Play

  1. Analyze the Shapes: Look at the Original green shape on the left and compare it to the New Shape in orange on the right.

  2. Identify the Movement: Determine which action was performed to change the original shape into the new one:
Flip: Is it a mirror image? (If the “L” is facing the opposite direction, it’s a flip).
Turn: Has it been spun? (If the “L” is upside down or lying on its side but not mirrored, it’s a turn).
Slide: Is it exactly the same, just shifted? (If it’s still upright and facing the same way, it’s a slide).

  3. Submit Your Guess: Click one of the three colored buttons (FLIP, TURN, or SLIDE) to check your answer.

  4. Check Your Feedback: The game will immediately tell you if you “nailed it” or explain what the movement actually was.

  5. Build a High Score: Click “Play Next Round ➔” to get a new puzzle. Try to get as many correct in a row as possible—but be careful, a wrong answer resets your score to zero.
