Equal Sides Worksheet/Game
Welcome to the Equal Sides Challenge! This game is designed to help you become an expert at the number of equal sides in a polygon. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.
How to Play
Read Your Mission
Look at the amber box at the top of the screen. It will give you a target number of equal sides to find:
NO: Look for a shape where every side is a different length (Scalene).
2: Look for a shape with exactly two matching sides (Isosceles).
3: Look for a shape with three identical sides (Equilateral).
4: Look for a shape with four identical sides (Square).
Inspect the Grid
Four green shapes will appear in the grid below. Use your eyes like a ruler to compare the lengths of the lines:
The Scalene: Look for a triangle that seems “pushed over” with one very long side and one very short side.
The Isosceles: Look for a triangle that is tall and thin, like a steeple. The two sides meeting at the top are the same.
The Equilateral: Look for the most “perfect” looking triangle that is wide and balanced.
The Square: Look for the box shape where the height and width are a perfect match.
Make Your Selection
Click on the shape you think matches the target.
Correct: The shape will glow green, a success chime will play, and you’ll get a “Perfect Match” message.
Try Again: If you’re wrong, the shape will shake and turn red. Recount the equal sides and try a different shape.
Keep the Streak Going
Once you find the correct match, the NEXT CHALLENGE button will appear. Click it to shuffle the shapes and get a brand-new target. See how many you can get right in a row!
