Double Negative Game
This game is designed to help you master the Double Negative Rule: the mathematical concept that subtracting a negative number is the same as adding a positive one. There are two modes: Guided Mode and Mastery Mode. You can either use this Double Negative Rule or use the Subtract Integers Method. Scroll down for a detailed explanation.

How to Play the Double Negative Game
Choose Your Mode
1. Guided Mode (Interactive): Best for beginners. You click on the red minus signs in the equation. They transform into a green plus sign. The game will automatically set up the addition problem for you.

2. Mastery Mode (Rewrite):
You must manually type the transformed addition problem into the boxes.
Keep the first number (a).
Change the double negative to a positive (b).

Step-by-Step
Step 1: The Transformation
Before you solve the math, you must rewrite the problem.
In Guided, just click the signs.
In Mastery, type the numbers. If the problem is (-4) - (-7), you would type -4 in the first box and 7 in the second.

Step 2: The Solution
Once the problem looks like an addition problem (e.g., -4 + 7), the “Result” box will appear.
Calculate the final answer.
Type it in and hit Enter or click Submit.

Scoring
Correct: Earned only if you get the rewrite and the final answer right on your first try.
Attempts: Increases every time you finish a problem, even if you made a mistake along the way.
Reset: Your score resets to 0/0 whenever you return to the Main Menu or switch modes.

Tips
Keep-Change-Change: Always keep the first number, change subtraction to addition, and change the sign of the second number.
The Number Line: If you get stuck on the final addition, imagine starting at the first number and moving to the right for the second number.
