Divide by counting equal groups Worksheet/Game
Welcome to Divide by counting equal groups game. This game is designed to help you visualize division by looking at “groups” of things. Instead of just doing math in your head, you use your eyes to count. Division involves taking a big number and splitting it up into smaller, equal numbers. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.
How to Play
Observe the Dots
When the game starts, you will see a box containing several green circles (the groups). Inside each circle, there are small green dots.
Count the Groups
The first blank asks you to identify how many equal groups there are.
Action: Count how many large green circles you see on the screen.
Input: Type that number into the first box.
Count the Dots per Group
The second blank asks how many dots are in each group.
Action: Look inside just one of the green circles and count how many small dots are inside it. (Since the groups are equal, every circle will have the same amount).
Input: Type that number into the second box.
Check Your Math
Click the “Check Answer” button.
If you are correct: A message will appear showing you the division equation (e.g., 10 ÷ 2 = 5).
If you are wrong: The game will give you a hint to try counting the circles or the dots again.
Keep Practicing
Once you’ve solved one, click “Next Level.” The game will automatically scramble the dots and circles to give you a brand-new division problem to solve.
Tip for Learning:
Think of the total number of dots as the “Big Number” you are starting with. Division is just the act of taking that big number and splitting it up into smaller, equal piles.
