Common Difference Worksheet/Game
Welcome to Common Difference Worksheet/Game. This game involves spotting the common difference in a sequence of numbers that form an Arithmetic Sequence. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

How to play the Common Difference Game

  1. Analyze the Sequence
When the game loads, you will see four numbers in blue boxes. These numbers form an Arithmetic Sequence, meaning they change by the exact same amount from one box to the next.

  2. Calculate the “Common Difference” (d)
The “Common Difference” is the secret number being added or subtracted throughout the line.
The Formula: Subtract the first number from the second number (Second - First = d).
Increasing: If the numbers are going up (e.g., 10, 14, 18, 22), your answer will be a positive number (in this case, 4).
Decreasing: If the numbers are going down (e.g., 50, 45, 40, 35), your answer must include a minus sign (in this case, -5).

  3. Submit Your Solution
Input: Type your calculated value for d into the blue box labeled d =.
    Submit: Click “Submit Solution."
    Audio Feedback:
Success: You’ll hear an upbeat, ascending “ding” and the box turns green.
Failure: You’ll hear a low “thud” and the box turns red.

  4. Build Your Streak
Every correct answer increases your Target Streak at the top right.
The “Next Sequence” button unlocks only after you solve the current puzzle.
Warning: A single incorrect guess will reset your streak to zero.

Tip:
Always check the difference between the 3rd and 4th numbers as well. If it matches the difference between the 1st and 2nd, you know your calculation is 100% correct before you hit submit.
