Calculate Time Worksheet/Game
Welcome to Calculate Time Worksheet/Game. In this game, you need to find the missing piece of the Start + Duration = End equation. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

How to play the Calculate Time Game

  1. Identify the Missing Link
Each round, the game randomly hides one of three pieces of information. Look for the box highlighted in Amber with the question marks (??):
Missing Start Time: You know when the event ended and how long it took. Work backward (End Time - Duration).
Missing Duration: You know the start and end. Calculate how many minutes passed in between.
Missing End Time: You know when it started and how long it lasted. Work forward (Start Time + Duration).

  2. Read the Scenario
At the top of the card, a Scenario (like “You started baking a cake”) provides context, but the real data is in the three boxes below it. Use the two known values to calculate the third.

  3. Enter Your Answer
The input area changes based on what you need to solve:
If solving for Time (Start or End): Type the Hour in the first box and the Minutes in the second.
If solving for Duration: Type the total number of Minutes into the single large box.

  4. Audio & Visual Feedback
Once you think you’ve solved it, click Verify Calculation.
The “Ding-Ding” (Correct): If you hear a high-pitched double chime, you’ve nailed it. You get +20 points, and a new challenge will load.
The “Buzz” (Incorrect): A low, buzzy sound means your math was slightly off. Check your carries (remember, there are only 60 minutes in an hour.) and try again.

Tips

  1. The “60” Rule: If you are adding minutes and the total is 65, that is 1 hour and 5 minutes.
  2. Crossing the 12: If the start is 11:30 and the duration is 45 minutes, the hour will flip from 11 to 12.
  3. Subtraction Trick: If you are finding a start time and have to subtract 40 minutes from 12:10, imagine going back to 12:00 (10 mins) and then back another 30 minutes to 11:30.
