Box Plot Pilot bridges the gap between visual statistical representation and numerical data manipulation. Box plots are foundational tools in data literacy, offering a visual summary of data distribution, central tendency, and variability without cluttering the viewer with individual data points.
The game addresses three critical statistical competencies:
Visual Data Decoding: Reading box-and-whisker plots accurately by identifying five key positional boundaries along a scaled number line.
Data Set Division & Quartile Calculation: Structuring raw numerical data, finding the median (Q2), and isolating the middle values of lower and upper halves to determine Q1 and Q3.
Measures of Variability (IQR): Understanding Interquartile Range (IQR = Q3 - Q1) as a robust measure of spread that represents the range of the middle 50% of data, reducing the influence of extreme values and outliers.
