Bar Graph Worksheet/Game
Welcome to Bar Graph Worksheet/Game. This game focuses on the transition from raw data to a scaled bar graph. It requires students to translate numerical data by “coloring in” the bars and then answering an interpretation question to verify their understanding. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

How to play the Bar Graph Worksheet/Game

  1. Start Your Mission
When you open the file, you’ll see the Menu Screen. Click the “Enter Garden” button to generate a new set of random flower data and start the game.

  2. Read the Flower Data
At the top of the screen, you will see three white Tally Boxes labeled Red, Blue, and Yellow. Inside each box is a number (e.g., “Red: 5”). This tells you exactly how high each bar needs to be.

  3. Build the Graph (The Coloring Phase)
In the center of the screen is a blank graph with a scale from 1 to 8.
To color a bar: Click on a square in the column above the flower name.
Logic: If you click the square next to the number 5, the game will automatically fill in all the squares from 1 up to 5 for that color.
Goal: Make sure the height of the colored bars matches the numbers in the Tally Boxes exactly.

  4. Check Your Work
Once you think your graph looks correct, click the orange “Check My Graph” button at the bottom.
If it’s wrong: The game will gently tell you to check your bars again.
If it’s right: You’ll move on to the Reading Phase.

  5. Solve the Mystery (The Reading Phase)
The Tally Boxes and the “Check” button will disappear. A question will appear at the top, such as:
“Which flower did you color the MOST?"
Choose the correct answer from the buttons at the bottom.
Success: If you answer correctly, you’ll get a “That’s right!” message, and a new level will load automatically after a short delay.

Teacher’s Tip
This game uses a Concrete-to-Abstract flow. By forcing the student to “build” the data before they “read” it, they are much more likely to understand what the height of a bar actually represents.
