How to Play b vs d Game
Objective Investigate missing letters and solve the mystery! Students look at an emoji picture clue, listen to the word, and decide if it needs a lowercase b or d to be complete.

Step-by-Step Gameplay

  1. Look at the Clue: Examine the big emoji picture card in the center (like 🐕 or 🦇) to see what word you are trying to build.

  2. Listen to the Word: Click the purple megaphone button (📢) next to the word. The game will read the word out loud using a friendly, clear voice.

  3. Use Your Visual Anchors: Look at the reminder guide at the top of the screen: b starts with a straight baseball Bat, then the round Ball. d starts with a round Doorknob, then the tall Door.

  4. Make Your Choice: Click the blue b button or the orange d button to fill in the blank space.

  5. Read the Clue: The full letter will pop into place, and a message will explain exactly how to remember that letter shape for next time.

  6. Move On: Click the green Next Word ➡️ button to track down the next mystery letter until all 10 cases are closed!

Methods to help kids differentiate between b and d

“b” is a Bat and a Ball: The straight line comes first (the baseball bat), followed by the round circle (the ball). You have to pick up the bat before you can hit the ball!
“d” is a Doorknob and a Door: The round circle comes first (the doorknob), followed by the tall straight line (the door). You have to grab the doorknob before you can open the door.

The “Bed” Picture: Visualize a bed. The letter b starts at the beginning of the word and looks like a headboard, while the letter d is at the end of the word and looks like the footboard.

The Hand Trick: Make a “thumbs-up” sign with both fists. Your left hand forms a lowercase b, and your right hand forms a lowercase d. Put your fists together, and your thumbs and fingers will spell out the word b-e-d.
