Adverb Worksheet/Game
Master parts of speech with Verbs & Adverbs Pilot! An interactive learning game where students identify action verbs and adverbs step-by-step in complete sentences.
How to play
Game Goal
Complete 10 grammar quests by successfully locating both the Verb and the Adverb in each sentence to earn a top score of 100 points.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Read the Full Sentence: A sentence broken into clickable word blocks will appear in the center of the display area.
Step 1 — Select the Verb: Follow the prompt in the blue box (“Tap the Verb”). Click or tap the word that represents the action in the sentence (e.g., ran, rested, sang).
Correct: The word turns light blue and locks in place.
Incorrect: The button flashes red with a low tone, allowing you to re-read and try again without penalty.
Step 2 — Select the Adverb: Once the verb is locked, the prompt turns purple (“Now tap the Adverb”). Find the word that describes how the action happened (e.g., quickly, softly, loudly).
Review Feedback & Advance: Once both words are identified, the full sentence locks, a green explanation box reveals how the adverb modifies the verb, and a chime plays. Tap Next Quest ➔ to move forward.
Session Wrap-Up: After 10 rounds, view your total score and tap Play Again 🔄 to draw a fresh set of randomized sentences from the question bank.

Educational Summary
Pedagogical Focus
This interactive application targets foundational grammar and sentence structure competencies (aligned with CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.2.1.E and general elementary literacy standards). It isolates and explicitly demonstrates the functional relationship between verbs and adverbs in context.
Key Learning Objectives
Sequential Syntactic Identification: By forcing a strict two-step sequence—identifying the action verb before the modifying adverb—the game reinforces the structural rule that adverbs modify action words.
Contextual Explanations: Upon completing each sentence, the game displays a explicit micro-lesson (e.g., ‘“softly” tells HOW the puppy rested’), cementing the conceptual definition of “how” adverbs.
Mastery-Oriented Feedback Loop: Instant audio-visual signals allow students to self-correct mistakes immediately, reducing frustration while developing grammatical intuition.
Randomized Question Bank: The game pulls 10 random items per round from an internal 15-sentence bank, encouraging repeated gameplay and fluency practice without rote memory bias.
