Add 5 Worksheet/Game
Welcome to the Add 5 Challenge! Since five is exactly half of ten, mastering this “jump” is one of the most important steps in becoming a mental math wizard. This game is designed to help you recognize +5 patterns instantly. You can also consider using the Addition using Make a Ten Strategy. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

How to Play

  1. View the Problem At the center of the screen, you’ll see a math problem. The game uses commutative property, meaning sometimes it will ask 7 + 5 and other times 5 + 7. Both are the same, and the game helps your brain stay flexible.

  2. Choose Your Answer Pick one of the four buttons in the grid. Correct Answer: The button glows green, you’ll hear a bright “victory ping,” and you’ll get a “High Five!” message. Wrong Answer: The button turns red, a low tone plays, and the game gently shows you the correct sum so you can memorize it for the next round.

  3. Check Your Accuracy Look at the Accuracy bubble in the top right. It tracks your “Correct vs. Total” attempts. Try to see how many you can get right in a row.

  4. Move to the Next Round Once you answer, the NEXT CHALLENGE ➔ button will appear. Click it to reset the board and get a brand-new problem.

Top Tips for Adding 5 The “Ends in 0 or 5” Rule: If you add 5 to a number ending in 0 (like 10), the answer ends in 5 (15). If you add 5 to a number ending in 5 (like 5), the answer ends in 0 (10). The “Halfway” Strategy: Think of 5 as a bridge. If you are at 8 and need to add 5, add 2 to get to 10, then add the remaining 3 to get to 13.
