Add 0 Worksheet/Game
Welcome to the Add 0 Challenge! This is where you learn the most important rule in addition: zero is the Identity Element. In math, adding 0 is like adding “nothing.” If you have 5 apples and I give you 0 more apples, you still have exactly 5 apples. This is a vital building block for algebra and mental math because it helps you simplify complex problems later on. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

How to Play

  1. Read the Problem
In the center of the screen, you will see an addition sentence like 7 + 0 or 0 + 12.

  2. Use the “Mirror” Strategy
Think of the number 0 as a mirror. When any number “looks” at zero, it sees itself.
    Example: 15 + 0 will always be 15.
    Example: 0 + 4 will always be 4.

  3. Select the Correct Option
Below the problem, you will see four buttons with different numbers. Click the button that matches the non-zero number in your equation.
Correct: The button turns sky blue, and a happy chime plays.
Incorrect: The button turns orange, and the game will remind you that adding zero changes nothing.

  4. Track Your Accuracy
Keep an eye on the Accuracy bubble at the top right. It tracks your score for the session. Can you get 20 correct answers in a row?

  5. Move to the Next Challenge
After answering, click the large NEXT CHALLENGE ➔ button to get a brand-new problem instantly.

Sound Controls
If you prefer to play in silence, click the Speaker Icon in the top right corner to toggle the sound effects on or off.

Why Practice Adding 0? While it seems simple, mastering this property allows your brain to skip unnecessary work. When you see a + 0 in a much larger math problem later on, you’ll know instantly that you can ignore it and focus on the harder parts.
