This 3-Digit Addition Worksheet/Game is a great way to put your skills to the test in a fun environment. By practicing, you’ll start to work out the answers efficiently.
3-Digit Addition Worksheet/Game
Practice 3-digit column addition with interactive regrouping boxes. Features single/double carrying modes, instant audio feedback, and vertical place value support for 2nd and 3rd grade.
How to play
Pick a Skill Mode:
Single Regrouping: Carry in only one column (Ones or Tens) to build initial confidence.
Double Regrouping: Carry across both the Ones and Tens columns for full algorithmic fluency.
Mixed Challenge: Solve varied 3-digit addition problems ranging from 150 to 850.
Start in the Ones Column: Add the two digits on the far right first.
Use the Carry Boxes: If a column sum exceeds 9, type the carried 1 into the small carry box sitting directly above the next column to the left.
Enter the Column Sum: Type the ones-digit of your sum into the bottom input box for that column.
Work Right-to-Left: The input automatically advances left through the Tens, Hundreds, and Thousands places as you type.
Check & Advance: Click Check (or press Enter) to validate your answer, then click Next for a new problem.

Educational Summary
Target Audience: Grades 2–3 (Ages 7–9)
Mathematical Core Focus: Place value understanding, column addition algorithms, regrouping (carrying), and early multiplication concepts via repeated addition.
Standards Alignment: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.NBT.B.6 — Add up to four two-digit numbers using strategies based on place value and properties of operations.
The game provides a structured vertical workspace designed to reduce cognitive load during complex multi-addend calculations. By breaking down the problem into single-column inputs and offering an optional carry input, students build conceptual fluency with place value notation while reinforcing the traditional addition algorithm.
Teacher’s Guide
Differentiation Strategies:
Scaffolded Learning: Assign No Regrouping mode first to build confidence in multi-addend spatial alignment before introducing carrying mechanics.
Intervention: Use With Regrouping mode for targeted practice with students who frequently forget to add the carried digit in multi-number addition.
Multiplication Bridge: Use Repeated Numbers mode to transition students from repeated addition to introductory multiplication concepts (e.g., 24 + 24 + 24 + 24 = 24 × 4).
Implementation Ideas:
Math Warm-Up: Run 3–5 daily problems on an interactive whiteboard as a whole-class bellringer.
Independent Station: Use during rotations as a self-checking station with real-time score tracking.
Math Talk Prompts:
“When you added the ones column, why did you put a number in the top carry box?"
“How does adding four numbers together differ from adding just two numbers?"
“If you are playing ‘Repeated Numbers’ and see 15 written 4 times, what shortcut could you use to find the answer?"
