Multiplication & Associative Property Worksheets

Free printable math worksheets to help students learn how to use the associative property of multiplication as a strategy to multiply.

The associative property plays a crucial role in understanding and simplifying multiplication problems.

Associative Property of Multiplication:
This property states that the order that a group of numbers are multiplied together does not matter.

Example:
3 × (5 × 2) = (3 × 5) × 2 = 30 4 × (2 × 8) = (4 × 2) × 8 = 64

Benefits of the Associative Property:

  1. Simplifies calculations: You can rearrange multiplication problems based on what’s easiest to solve first.
  2. Allows for grouping: You can group numbers together using brackets to make calculations clearer or more efficient.
  3. Connects to other mathematical concepts: The associative property forms the basis for distributive property and understanding algebraic expressions.
