Division Facts Game
Using multiplication to learn division is one of the most effective strategies because it helps you understand the relationship between the two operations. Once you know one, you automatically know a set of related facts for the other.

Before learning the division facts make sure that you are fluent with the multiplication facts by practicing the multiplication tables using the Multiplication Tables Game and Find Missing Factors Game. You can then use the multiplication facts to find the division facts. In this way, you would only need to remember the multiplication facts. With practice, you would be able to quickly switch between the multiplication fact and the corresponding division fact. Scroll down the page if you need a more detailed explanation.

Strategies to remember the Division Facts

  1. The Missing Factor Strategy
    Find Missing Factors Game
This is a simple mental trick that rephrases the division problem as a multiplication problem you already know.
    Division problem: 24÷6=?
    Think of it as: 6×?=24
By thinking this way, you can search your memory for a multiplication fact. You know that 6×4=24, so the answer to your
division problem is 4. This is a very powerful way to use what you already know to solve something new.

  2. Using Fact Families
As we discussed before, fact families are groups of three numbers that are related by multiplication and division. The goal is to learn all four facts in the family together.
Example: Use the numbers 7, 8, and 56.
    Multiplication facts:
    7×8=56
    8×7=56
    Division facts:
    56÷7=8
    56÷8=7
By practicing these facts as a group, you’ll start to see the patterns and the inverse relationship more clearly.

  3. Visualizing with Arrays and Groups
If you’re a visual learner, using arrays or drawing groups can really help. An array is just an arrangement of objects in rows and columns.
Multiplication: To show 3×5=15, you would draw 3 rows with 5 dots in each row. The total number of dots is 15.
Division: To solve 15÷3=?, you start with all 15 dots. You then divide them into 3 equal rows. You will see that each row has 5 dots, which is your answer. This visual method helps you see how division is simply “un-doing” the multiplication. Practice is key, so try using these strategies with a handful of numbers you find tricky.
