To find the volume of a composite solid—a shape that’s made up of two or more basic solids, such as cylinders, cones, prisms, and spheres—you can follow these general steps:

Steps for Finding the Volume of Composite Solids Identify the Basic Solids: Break down the composite solid into recognizable shapes, such as cubes, prisms, cylinders, cones, spheres, or pyramids.

Calculate the Volume of Each Shape Separately:

1. Use the appropriate formula for each basic solid. Here are some common volume formulas:
   Cylinder: 𝑉 = 𝜋𝑟²h
   Cone: 𝑉 = 1/3 𝜋𝑟2ℎ
   Sphere: 𝑉 = 4/3 𝜋𝑟3
   Rectangular prism: 𝑉 = 𝑙 × 𝑤 × h
   Pyramid: 𝑉 = 1/3 Base Area × Height
   Substitute the dimensions for each solid and calculate the individual volumes.
   
2. Add or Subtract the Volumes as Needed:
   Add volumes for shapes that combine to form the composite solid.
   Subtract volumes if one shape is removed from another (like a hole in a cylinder or a cone cut out of a sphere).
