How to find Volume of Composite Prisms?

Composite prisms are three-dimensional shapes that consist of two or more connected prisms. A composite prism is a solid made up of two or more simpler prisms joined together. To find its volume, we break it down into its component parts.

Steps to Find the Volume of a Composite Prism:

  1. Identify the Component Prisms: Determine the individual prisms that make up the composite shape.
  2. Calculate the Volume of Each Prism: Use the formula for the volume of a prism (Volume = Base Area × Height) for each individual prism.
  3. Combine the Volumes: Add the volumes of all the individual prisms to find the total volume of the composite prism.

Useful Tips:

  1. Visualize the Composite Prism: Draw or imagine the composite figure, labeling all relevant dimensions.
  2. Use the Correct Formulas: Ensure you use the appropriate volume formula for each prism.
  3. Add or Subtract Correctly: If the prisms are joined together, add their volumes. If a part is removed (cut-out), subtract its volume.
  4. Check Units: Make sure all measurements are in the same units before performing calculations
