How to simplify rational expressions worksheets?

There are three sets of simplifying rational expressions worksheets.

  • Simplify Rational Expressions worksheets (Monomials)
  • Simplify Rational Expressions worksheets (Include Binomials)
  • Simplify Rational Expressions worksheets (Include Trinomials)

To simplify rational expressions, follow these steps:

  1. Factor Numerator and Denominator: Factor both the numerator and denominator of the rational expression completely.
  2. Cancel Common Factors: Identify any common factors between the numerator and denominator, and cancel them out. If there are terms that can be simplified further, simplify them as well.
  3. Check for Restrictions: Identify any values of the variable that would make the denominator equal to zero. These values are called restrictions, and they would make the expression undefined. Exclude these values from the domain of the simplified expression.
