How to add & subtract rational expressions worksheets?

There are two sets of adding & subtracting rational expressions worksheets.

• Add & Subtract Rational Expressions worksheets (Common Denominators)
• Add & Subtract Rational Expressions worksheets (Different Denominators)

Adding or Subtracting Rational Expressions with a Common Denominator:

1. Add or Subtract Numerators.
2. Simplify the resulting expression by factoring the numerator and denominator and canceling any common factors.

Adding or Subtracting Rational Expressions with Different Denominators:
If the rational expressions have different denominators, you need to follow these additional steps:

1. Find a Common Denominator: Find a common denominator for the rational expressions. This common denominator should be the same for both expressions.
2. Adjust Numerators: Adjust the numerators of the expressions so that they have the same denominator as the common denominator you found in step 1.
3. Add or Subtract Numerators: Add or subtract the adjusted numerators.
4. Simplify the Result: Simplify the resulting expression by factoring the numerator and denominator and canceling any common factors.

Remember to simplify your final expression as much as possible and to consider the domain of the expression to avoid dividing by zero.
