There are six sets of circle worksheets:

Examples, solutions, videos, and worksheets to help grade 7 and grade 8 students learn how to find the area of a circle given its radius or diameter.

How to find the area of a circle?

There are two sets of area of circle worksheets

  • Area of circles (inches, ft, yard)
  • Area of circles (mm, cm)

Given the radius
If you are given the radius of a circle, you can use the following formula to find the area of a circle:

A = πr2

Where:

  • A is the area of the circle.
  • π (pi) is a mathematical constant approximately equal to 3.14159…
  • r is the radius of the circle.

Example:
Find the area of a circle with a radius of 6 units. Use 3.14 for π.
A = πr2 = (3.14)(6)2 = 113.04 units2

Given the diameter
If you are given the diameter (which is twice the radius) then you would need to divide the diameter by 2 to get the radius and the use the formula A = πr2

Example:
Find the area of a circle with a diameter of 8 units. Use 3.14 for π.
Divide the diameter by 2 to get the radius. Radius = 8 ÷ 2 = 4
A = πr2 = (3.14)(4)2 = 50.24 units2
