Where:

• w is the width of the rectangular prism.
• h is the height of the rectangular prism.

1. Measure the length (l), width (w), and height (h) of the rectangular prism in units.
2. Use the formula above to calculate the surface area. Multiply each pair of sides by 2 and add them together.

   SA = 2lw + 2lh + 2wh

Example:
Find the surface area of a rectangular prism with the following dimensions:
Length (l) = 4 units

Height (h) = 5 units

Using the formula:
SA = 2lw + 2lh + 2wh
SA = 2(4)(3) + 2(4)(5) + 2(3)(5)

Now calculate each term:
2lw = 2(4)(3) = 24 square units
2lh = 2(4)(5) = 40 square units
2wh = 2(3)(5) = 30 square units

Now, add these areas together:
SA = 24 + 40 + 30
SA = 94 square units

So, the surface area of the rectangular prism is 94 square units.
