# Simplify Expression Worksheets (Multiply, Divide)

There are five sets of simplifying expressions worksheets:

Examples, solutions, videos, and worksheets to help Grade 7 and Grade 8 students learn how to simplify an algebraic expression by multiplying or dividing.

### How to simplify an algebraic expression by multiplying or dividing?

There are three sets of simplifying algebraic expression worksheets.

• Simplify Expressions (Multiply)
• Simplify Expressions (Divide)
• Simplify Expressions (Multiply & Divide)

To simplify expressions using multiplication, follow these steps:

1. Multiply Numerical Terms: Multiply the numerical (constant) terms together, if any are present.
2. Multiply Variables: If the expression contains variables, multiply the variables together. Use the rules for exponents if applicable.
3. Combine Like Terms: If there are like terms (terms with the same variable raised to the same power), combine them by adding their coefficients (the numbers in front of the variable).

Example: Simplify 2xy × 3y.
Multiply the numerical terms: 2 × 3 = 6.
Multiply the variables: xy × y = xy2.
So, 2xy × 3y simplifies to 6xy2.

To simplify expressions using division, follow these steps:

1. Perform Numerical Division: Divide the numerical (constant) terms if any are present.
2. Perform Variable Division: If the expression contains variables, divide the variables as well. Use the rules for exponents if applicable.
3. Combine Like Terms: If there are like terms (terms with the same variable raised to the same power), combine them by adding their coefficients (the numbers in front of the variable).
