This Order of Ops (Mixed Op) Game/Worksheet is a great way to put your skills to the test in a fun environment. By practicing, you’ll start to work out the answers efficiently.
Order of Ops (Mixed Op) Quiz/Game
Welcome to Order Ops (Mixed Op). In this game, you goal is to master the Order of Operations (PEMDAS/BODMAS). You aren’t just looking for the final answer; you are showing how to solve it one step at a time.
This game helps you master the hierarchy rule: where Multiplication & Division have a higher priority than Addition & Subtraction. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.
Check out the following Order of Operations Games/Quizzes for the complete PEMDAS series.
How to play the Order of Ops (Mixed Op) Game
Choose Your Level
Two-Step: You get 3 numbers and 2 operators (e.g., 10 + 2 × 5).
Three-Step: You get 4 numbers and 3 operators (e.g., 20 ÷ 2 + 4 × 3).
Mixed Mode: A mix of both.
The Rule
The game checks if you know which math operation to do first. You must follow the hierarchy:
High Priority: Multiplication (×) and Division (÷). (If both are there, go left to right).
Low Priority: Addition (+) and Subtraction (-).
How to Type Your Answer
Don’t jump to the final total! You must type the entire next line of the equation after solving only one part.
Example: 10 + 5 * 2
Step 1: You identify that 5 * 2 happens first.
Step 2: In the input box, type the simplified version: 10 + 10 and hit Enter.
Step 3: Now solve the final part. Type 20 and hit Enter.
Streaks and Feedback
✅ Correct: The line moves up into the “History,” and you get a satisfying chime.
❌ Wrong Order: If you try to add before you multiply (e.g., typing 15 * 2 in the example above), your Streak will reset to 0.
🔥 Streaks: To grow your streak, you must finish a whole problem without making a single mistake.
Tips
Ignore Spaces: You can type 10+10 or 10 + 10; the game is smart enough to understand both.
Left-to-Right: If you see 12 / 2 * 3, Division and Multiplication are equal rank. Solve 12 / 2 first!
Example:
Starting Problem: 10 + 6 / 2 * 4
In this problem, we have Addition, Division, and Multiplication.
The Thought Process:
According to the Hierarchy of Operations, we ignore Addition for now. We must choose between Division and Multiplication. Since they are equal in rank, we solve the one on the left first (6 / 2).
Step 1: Type the first simplification
You solve 6 / 2 = 3. You keep everything else the same.
What you type: 10 + 3 * 4
Result: ✅ Correct! The chime sounds, and the problem updates.
Step 2: Type the next simplification
Now you have 10 + 3 * 4. Multiplication is higher priority than addition, so you must solve 3 * 4 next.
What you type: 10 + 12
Result: ✅ Correct! You’re almost there.
Step 3: Type the final result
Now you just have the addition left.
What you type: 22
Result: 🏆 Perfect Execution! Your streak increases by 1, and the “Next Problem” button appears.
