In these free math worksheets, students practice how to convert between the metric lengths (km, m and cm).
How to convert between different metric lengths?
Here are some common units of length in the metric system and their conversions:
1 meter (m) = 100 centimeter (cm)
1 kilometer (km) = 1000 meters (m)
To convert from a larger unit to a smaller unit, we multiply.
For example, to convert 12 kilometers to meters, multiply by 1,000:
12 kilometers = 12 × 1,000 meters = 12,000 meters.
To convert from a smaller unit to a larger unit, we divide.
For example, to convert 1,700 centimeters to meters, divide by 100:
1,700 centimeters = 1,700 ÷ 100 meters = 17 meters.
