There are four sets of evaluate algebraic expressions worksheets:

Examples, solutions, videos, and worksheets to help Grade 7 and Grade 8 students learn how to evaluate algebraic expressions with one variable (substitute integers).

How to Evaluate Algebraic Expression (substitute integers)?

There are two sets of Evaluating Algebraic Expression worksheets.

  • Evaluating Algebraic Expression (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
  • Evaluating Algebraic Expression (parenthesis, exponents).

These are the steps to evaluate algebraic expressions:

  1. Substitute the variables with their provided values.
  2. Use the order of operations (PEMDAS/BODMAS) to carry out operations in the correct sequence.
  • Parentheses: Evaluate expressions within parentheses first.
  • Exponents: Compute any exponents or powers.
  • Multiplication and Division: Perform these operations from left to right.
  • Addition and Subtraction: Perform these operations from left to right.

Example:
Evaluating the expression 3(x - 1) + 5 when x = -4.
Substitute x with -4: 3(-4 - 1) + 5
Evaluate expressions within parentheses: 3(-5) + 5 Perform multiplication and addition: -15 + 5 = -10

Remember to follow the order of operations and simplify each step along the way to evaluate the algebraic expressions accurately.
