### How to find the area of polygons in the coordinate plane?

Method 1:

- We can draw a rectangle around the outside of the polygon.
- Using these vertical and horizontal lines, we can find the area of the triangles that would be formed around the original polygon.
- These areas would be subtracted from the area of the rectangle leaving us with the area of the original polygon in the center.

Method 2: Decomposition & Triangles

- Try to break down the polygon into simpler shapes, most commonly triangles. For example, you can achieve this by drawing lines between non-consecutive vertices (corners) to create triangles.
- Once you have your triangles, find the area of each triangle using the formula:

Area of triangle = 1/2 × base × height

- Add up the areas of all the individual triangles you created in step 1. This will give you the total area of the original polygon.
