Understanding the Problem:
Identify the unknowns and assign variables (e.g., x, y).
Translate the given information into equations.
Solving Methods:
Substitution:
- Solve one equation for a variable.
- Substitute the expression into the other equation.
- Solve the resulting equation.
Elimination:
- Multiply one or both equations to make the coefficients of one variable opposite.
- Add or subtract the equations to eliminate that variable.
- Solve the resulting equation.
