### Subtract Across Zeros Worksheets

In these Second Grade math worksheets, students practice subtracting across zeros using the regrouping or borrowing method or the box method. Subtract a 3-digit number from a multiple of 100. For example, 400 - 126 = 374.

1. Arrange the numbers vertically in columns. Make sure that the subtrahend is on top of the minuend and that they line up according to their place values.
2. Subtract the digits in each column, starting from the rightmost column (the ones column) and working your way to the left.
3. If the digit in the top number is smaller than the digit in the bottom number, regroup or borrow from the digit in the left column.
4. If there is a succession of zeros, you can use this shortcut to help you to regroup:
• reduce the digit to the left of the zeros by 1.
• change the rightmost zero to a 10
• change the other zeros to a 9.
