Subset Worksheet/Game
Welcome to Subset Worksheet/Game. This game is a logic puzzle game designed to help you master the rules of subsets, proper subsets, and power set calculations. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

How to Play

  1. Identify the “Base Set”
    At the top of the screen, you are given Set A.
    Cardinality (n): This tells you how many elements are in the set. For example, if A = {a, b, c}, the cardinality is 3. This number is the key to solving the math-based questions.

  2. Solve the Challenge
    The game will present one of four types of logic puzzles in the amber box:
    Total Subsets: You must calculate how many different sets can be made from A.
    Proper Subsets: You must calculate how many subsets exist that are not identical to the original set.
    Subset Verification (⊆): A True/False question asking if one set is a subset of A.
    Proper Subset Verification (⊂): A True/False question asking if one set is a strict proper subset of A.

  3. Input Your Answer
    Number Mode: Type your calculated value into the box and hit SUBMIT.
    True/False Mode: Simply click the TRUE or FALSE button based on the mathematical statement shown.

The Cheat Sheet
To get a perfect score, keep these three rules in mind:

Concept Symbol Rule / Formula
Total Subsets 2n (where n is the number of elements)
Proper Subsets 2n - 1 (everything except the set itself)
Subset TRUE if every element in the first set is in A. (Note: A set is a subset of itself!)
Proper Subset TRUE if every element is in A AND the set is smaller than A. (A set is never a proper subset of itself).

Important Logic Tips
The Empty Set (∅):
Remember that the empty set is a subset (⊆) and a proper subset (⊂) of every set (except itself, where it is only a subset).
The “Subtract One” Rule: For Proper Subsets, the formula is always one less than the total subsets because you exclude the original set.
Since the cardinality (n) is usually between 2 and 4, you only need to know these powers of 2:
22 = 4
23 = 8
24 = 16

Sets: Union, Intersection, Complement
