Singular Plural Worksheet/Game
Welcome to Singular Plural Worksheet/Game. This game is a spelling and grammar training game designed to help you master the tricky rules of English nouns. It tests your ability to convert words between their singular (one) and plural (more than one) forms. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

How to Play

  1. Read the Prompt
Look at the label above the main word. It will tell you which direction to convert:
“What is the PLURAL form of…”: You are given one item (e.g., Apple) and must type the version for many (e.g., Apples).
“What is the SINGULAR form of…”: You are given the many version (e.g., Wolves) and must type the version for just one (e.g., Wolf).

  2. Type Your Answer
Click in the white input box and type the correct spelling.
The game is not case-sensitive, so “apples” and “Apples” are both fine.
Once you’re ready, click SUBMIT or press the Enter key.

  3. Learn the Rules
After each answer, a feedback box will appear. Even if you got it right, read the Rule Check. It explains the logic behind the spelling, such as:
Consonant + Y: Why Baby becomes Babies.
F/FE endings: Why Leaf becomes Leaves.
Irregular Nouns: Why Mouse becomes Mice.

Common Rules to Remember
English plurals can be tricky. Here is a quick reference for the patterns you’ll encounter in the game:

Ending Action Example
Standard Just add -s Dog → Dogs
s, x, z, ch, sh Add -es Fox → Foxes
Consonant + y Drop y, add -ies City → Cities
Vowel + y Just add -s Key → Keys
f or fe Change to -ves Knife → Knives
Irregular Spelling changes completely Child → Children
No Change Stays the same Sheep → Sheep

Tips Watch for Exceptions: Keep an eye out for words like “roof.” While most “f” words change to “ves,” some just take an “s”. Score Tracking: Your running total is kept in the top-right corner. Try to see how many you can get right in a row without an error.
