Set Notation Worksheet/Game
Welcome to Set Notation Worksheet/Game. This is a matching game designed to help you master the terminology and mathematical symbols used in set theory. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

How to Play

  1. The Challenge
In the center of the screen, a term (like “Disjoint”) or a symbol (like ∩) will appear inside the blue-bordered box. Below it, you will see a list of four possible definitions.

  2. Making Your Selection
Analyze the Symbol: Look closely at the notation. For example, if you see ∈, you are looking for the definition related to being an “element of” a set.
Pick the Best Match: Click the white button that correctly describes the displayed item.

  3. Immediate Feedback
Correct: If you choose wisely, you’ll hear a high-pitched chime, the screen will flash a “Correct!” message, and the next question will load automatically after a brief pause.
Incorrect: If the answer is wrong, you’ll hear a low “buzz.” Your total attempts will increase, but the question will stay on the screen so you can try again.

  4. Using the Hint System
If you are stuck on a specific symbol, a “Show Hint” button will appear after an incorrect guess.
Clicking this opens a yellow box with a helpful tip (e.g., for ∪, it might say “Think ‘OR’ - everything together”).

  5. Scoring and Completion
Score Tracker: Your accuracy is tracked in the top-right corner as Correct / Total Attempts.
Winning the Game: The game will cycle through all 19 unique symbols and terms in a randomized order. Once you have successfully defined every item in the bank, you will reach the “Master of Sets!” end screen.
