Set Builder Worksheet/Game
Welcome to Set Builder Worksheet/Game. This game is a hands-on puzzle game where you act as the “set builder.” You have to manually pick which specific numbers belong in a set based on mathematical operations. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

How to Play

  1. Study the Given Sets
At the top, you’ll see three definitions:
U (Universal Set): In this game, it is always the numbers 1 through 9.
A and B: These are random subsets of U. Look at these carefully! These are your source lists.

  2. The “Construct” Challenge
The blue box will give you a specific set operation to perform, such as:
A ∪ B (Union): Pick every number that appears in A, B, or both.
A ∩ B (Intersection): Pick only the numbers that appear in both A and B.
A’ or B’ (Complement): Pick every number from U that is NOT in the specified set.

  3. Selecting Elements
Click the numbers (1-9) in the grid to select them. Selected numbers will turn solid blue.
Click a number again if you want to deselect it.
Empty Set (∅): If the answer has no numbers (for example, if A and B share no common elements during an intersection), simply click SUBMIT SET without selecting any numbers.

Understanding the Feedback
Once you hit submit, the grid will light up to show you how you did:
Green Background: These are the numbers that should have been in your set.
Red Background + Strikethrough: These are numbers you picked that didn’t belong there.
Gray/Faded: These numbers were correctly left out of the set.

Quick Reference Guide

Operation Symbol Goal
Union A ∪ B “Join” them. Select everything in A and everything in B.
Intersection A ∩ B “Overlap.” Select only what they have in common.
Complement A' “Opposite.” Select everything from 1-9 that is not in A.

Tip:
For A ∪ B, select all the numbers in Set A first, then look at Set B and select any numbers there that are not clicked yet.
