Sequences Worksheet/Game
Welcome to Sequences Worksheet/Game. This game requires you to identify the mathematical pattern in a given sequence and fill in the missing value. The sequences can be Arithmetic Sequences, Geometric Sequences, or Power Sequences. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

How to play the Sequences Game

  1. Select Your Mode
On the main menu, choose the type of sequence you want to practice:
Arithmetic: Numbers increase or decrease by adding/subtracting a constant value.
Geometric: Numbers increase or decrease by multiplying by a constant ratio.
Squares & Cubes: Numbers follow the power pattern (n2 or n3).
Mixed Mode: The computer randomly picks one of the above for every round.

  2. Analyze the Sequence
Once the game starts, you will see four cards labeled n1 through n4. One of these will have a “?”.
Step 1: Look at the numbers that are visible.
    Step 2: Determine the “Rule."
If Arithmetic: Subtract n1 from n2. Is the difference the same between n2 and n3?
If Geometric: Divide n2 by n1. Is the multiplier the same between n2 and n3?
If Powers: Do the numbers look like perfect squares (4, 9, 16…) or cubes (8, 27, 64…)?

  3. Fill the Gap
Once you know the rule, calculate the missing number.
Example (Arithmetic): If you see n1=5, n2=12, n3=?, the rule is +7. The answer is 19.
Example (Geometric): If you see n1=3, n2=6, n3=?, the rule is times; 2. The answer is 12.
Example (Powers): If you see n1=1, n2=4, n3=9, n4=?, the rule is n2. The answer is 16.

  4. Verify
Submit: Type your answer into the input box and press Enter or click Verify Logic.
Success: If you are correct, your Streak goes up, and a new sequence is generated automatically.
Failure: If you are wrong, your Streak resets to 0, and the system shows you a new problem to help you try again.
