Rounding Numbers Worksheets

Rounding a number involves approximating it to a specified place value.

Method 1: Use halfway mark
You can use the halfway mark as a guide to round numbers to the nearest ten, hundred, thousand, and so on.

  1. Decide the place value you want to round to (e.g., tens, hundreds, thousands).
  2. Find the halfway mark between the two rounding points.
  3. If the original number is equal to or greater than the halfway mark, round up. If the original number is less than the halfway mark, round down.

Method 2: Examine the digit to the right

  1. Determine the digit in the given number that corresponds to the place value you want to round to
  2. Look at the digit immediately to the right of the identified digit. If it is 5 or greater, round the identified digit up by 1. If it is less than 5, leave the identified digit unchanged.
  3. Change all digits to the right of the identified digit to 0.
