Relate Multiplication & Division Worksheet/Game
Welcome to the Relate Multiplication & Division Challenge! Multiplication and division are inverse operations, which means they undo each other. If you think of multiplication as putting equal groups together, then division is splitting it back into equal groups. By understanding this link, you don’t have to memorize two separate sets of facts—if you know 5 × 3 = 15, you already know that 15 ÷ 3 = 5. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.
How to Play
The goal is to use the three numbers shown in the green roof to complete the multiplication and division equations inside the house.
Meet the Family: Look at the three numbers in the roof.
The two numbers on the bottom are the factors.
The yellow number at the very top is the product.
Build the Product (Multiplication): Look at the first equation. Multiply the two bottom numbers together and type the result into the box.
Break Down the Product (Division): Look at the second equation. It starts with the big number. You need to figure out which “family member” is missing to make the division true.
Check the Harmony:
Click CHECK FAMILY.
Success: If both numbers are correct, the family is happy. You’ll hear a high chime and see a “Perfect” message.
Try Again: If something is wrong, you’ll hear a low thump. Double-check your calculation and try again.
New Neighborhood: Click NEW HOUSE to bring a brand-new family of numbers into the house.
What is a Fact Family?
A Fact Family is a set of four related math facts that use the same three numbers. In this house, we focus on the relationship between one multiplication fact and its corresponding division fact.
For example, if your roof has 3, 4, and 12:
Multiplication: 3 × 4 = 12 (Three groups of four make twelve).
Division: 12 ÷ 4 = 3 (Twelve split into four groups puts three in each group).
By playing this game, you are training your brain to see that division is simply asking: “What number do I multiply by to get this total?"
