Tree diagrams help break down complex problems into simpler parts by illustrating all possible outcomes and their probabilities.

Steps to Solve Probability Word Problems Using Tree Diagrams:

1. Understand the Problem: Identify the events and their possible outcomes. Determine if the events are sequential (one after another) or simultaneous (occurring at the same time).
2. Draw the Tree Diagram: Start with the initial event and draw branches for each possible outcome of that event.
   For each outcome of the initial event, draw branches for the subsequent events.
3. Assign Probabilities: Write the probability of each branch next to it. Ensure that the probabilities of all branches from the same node sum up to 1.
4. Calculate Joint Probabilities: Multiply the probabilities along each path from the start to the end of the tree to find the probability of each sequence of events.
5. Find the Desired Probability: Sum the probabilities of the paths that represent the desired outcome or event.
6. Check Your Work: Ensure that the sum of all probabilities at each level of the tree adds up to 1.
