Polygons Game
Polygons are closed, flat shapes made up of straight line segments. To identify and classify them, we primarily look at the relationships at the number of sides. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

In this game, you are required to look at the given polygon and select the correct name for the shape. The possible shapes shown are: triangle, quadrilateral, pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, octagon, nonagon, decagon. If you give a wrong answer, the game will provide the correct answer.

Which polygon is this?

How to Play the Polygons Game
In this game, you need to identify and classify polygons based on the number of sides: triangle, quadrilateral, pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, octagon, nonagon, decagon.
Here’s how to play:

  1. Choose your challenge: Select “Identify by Image”, “Identify by Properties”, or “Mixed Questions”.
  2. What shape is this? Select the correct name for the shape shown.
  3. Check Your Work: Click the “Check” button (or press the Enter key). The game will tell you if you’re correct. If you are wrong, you will be shown the correct answer.

Categories of Polygons
Polygons are closed, flat shapes made up of straight line segments.
Polygons can be classified by number of sides.

  1. The Polygon Definition
A polygon must meet three simple criteria:
Closed: The shape must have no gaps; the lines must connect end-to-end.
Flat (Planar): The shape must lie on a single flat surface (it’s 2-dimensional).
Straight Sides: All sides must be straight line segments; no curves are allowed.
  2. Classification by Number of Sides
The primary way to name a polygon is by counting its sides (and, consequently, its angles).
    Triangle: 3 sides
    Quadrilateral: 4 sides
    Pentagon: 5 sides
    Hexagon: 6 sides
    Heptagon: 7 sides
    Octagon: 8 sides
    Nonagon: 9 sides
    Decagon: 10 sides
