How to find the percent of a quantity?
There are two main ways to find the percent of a quantity:
Method 1 (Decimal):
This method involves writing the percent as a decimal and then multiply by the quantity.
For example, if you want to find 25% of 40:
25% = 25/00 = 0.25
Multiply the decimal by the quantity: 0.25 × 40 = 10
Method 2 (Fraction):
This method involves writing the percent as a fraction and then multiply by the quantity.
For example, to find 25% of 40:
Percent as a fraction = 25/100 = 1/4
Multiply the fraction by the quantity: 1/4 × 40 = 10
Given the Part and the Percent, find the Whole
Example:
A jacket was 15% of the original price. The sale resulted in a $18. What was the original price?
Original price = $18 ÷ 0.15 = $120
