Free printable and online worksheets to help Grade 6 students find the percent of a quantity. Given a part and the percent, solve problems involving finding the whole.

**How to find the percent of a quantity?**

There are two main ways to find the percent of a quantity:

Method 1 (Decimal):

This method involves writing the percent as a decimal and then multiply by the quantity.

For example, if you want to find 25% of 40:

25% = 25/00 = 0.25

Multiply the decimal by the quantity: 0.25 × 40 = 10

Method 2 (Fraction):

This method involves writing the percent as a fraction and then multiply by the quantity.

For example, to find 25% of 40:

Percent as a fraction = 25/100 = 1/4

Multiply the fraction by the quantity: 1/4 × 40 = 10

**Given the Part and the Percent, find the Whole**

- Read the problem to determine whether you are required find the Whole. (Hint: sometimes the Whole is referred to as the original amount or original price or total amount)
- Identify the Part and the Percent.

The Part is the known value given in the problem. It represents a specific portion or amount.

The Percent is written with the % sign. - Write the Percent as a decimal or a fraction.
- Divide the Part by the Percent to get the Whole.

Example:

A jacket was 15% of the original price. The sale resulted in a $18. What was the original price?

Original price = $18 ÷ 0.15 = $120
