PEMDAS Game

The best way to get good at following the PEMDAS or BODMAS rule is to do it often. This PEMDAS Game is an interactive and engaging web-based application designed to help users practice and improve their skills through mental math.

There are rules when solving a problem that consists of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, parenthesis, and exponents. PEMDAS is a mnemonic device used to remember the order of operations. Parenthesis, Exponent, Multiplication, Division, Addition, and Subtraction. Scroll down the page if you need a more detailed explanation.

This PEMDAS Game has an option to select with or without parenthesis and either 3 or 4 terms to customize the difficulty. It also has a 60-second timer, encouraging players to solve the problems quickly and efficiently.

How to use PEMDAS
PEMDAS is a mnemonic device used to remember the order of operations in mathematics.

PEMDAS (PEMDAS) Lesson
Parentheses (( ))
You always start by solving anything inside parentheses first. If there are nested parentheses, solve the innermost ones first.
Exponents (xn)
Next, you solve any numbers with exponents. An exponent tells you to multiply a number by itself a certain number of times.
Multiplication (×) and Division (÷)
After parentheses and exponents, you perform all multiplication and division from left to right, whichever comes first. They have equal priority.
Addition (+) and Subtraction (−)
Finally, you perform all addition and subtraction from left to right, whichever comes first. They also have equal priority.

Example Let’s solve the problem 10÷2+(3×4)−5.

  1. Parentheses: First, solve the expression inside the parentheses: (3×4)=12.
    The problem becomes: 10÷2+12−5.
  2. Exponents: There are no exponents in this problem, so we can skip this step.
  3. Multiplication and Division (from left to right): The first operation is division: 10÷2=5.
    The problem becomes: 5+12−5.
  4. Addition and Subtraction (from left to right): The first operation is addition: 5+12=17.
    The problem becomes: 17−5.
    Finally, perform the subtraction: 17−5=12.
So, the correct answer is 12.
