This Order of Exponent Game/Worksheet is a great way to put your skills to the test in a fun environment. By practicing, you’ll start to work out the answers efficiently.
Order of Exponent Quiz/Game
Welcome to Exponent Power. In this game, you goal is to master the Order of Operations (PEMDAS/BODMAS). You aren’t just looking for the final answer; you are showing how to solve it one step at a time.
This game helps you master the Exponent rule. In the hierarchy of operations, exponents (powers) are the second highest priority, sitting right below parentheses and above multiplication/division. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.
Check out the following Order of Operations Games/Quizzes for the complete PEMDAS series.
How to play the Order of Exponent Game
Select Your Mode
Basic PEMDAS: Focuses on the relationship between Multiplication/Division and Addition/Subtraction.
Power Level: Introduces Exponents (n2). This adds a high-priority layer that must be handled before Multiplication/Division and Addition/Subtraction.
Master the Hierarchy
You must calculate the parts of the expression in this specific order:
Exponents: Always solve these first (e.g., 32 becomes 9).
Multiplication/Division: Solve these next.
Addition/Subtraction: Solve these last.
The Rules of the Game
One Step at a Time: You cannot skip straight to the final answer. You must type out the entire new line after solving just the highest priority operation.
Validation: Type your step and press Enter or click “Validate Step."
Correct: You’ll hear a chime, and your step moves into the history.
Incorrect: You’ll hear a low thunk, and your streak resets.
Streaks: Solve the entire problem perfectly to increase your 🔥 Streak.
Example:
If the game gives you: 4 * 5 + 3²
Step 1: Solve the Exponent (High Priority)
32 = 9.
Type into the box: 4 * 5 + 9
Step 2: Solve the Multiplication (Medium Priority)
4 × 5 = 20.
Type into the box: 20 + 9
Step 3: Solve the Addition (Low Priority)
Type into the box: 29
Tips
In the pattern (22 + 32), solve the left-most exponent first. Type in 4 + 3^2.
Formatting: You can type with or without spaces (the game handles both), but make sure you don’t forget the remaining parts of the equation.
