This Order of Exponent Game/Worksheet (Integer Version) is a great way to put your skills to the test in a fun environment. By practicing, you’ll start to work out the answers efficiently.
Order of Exponent Quiz/Game-Integer
Welcome to Exponent Power. Your goal is to simplify complex equations involving positive and negative numbers (integers) by following the order of operations, one step at a time.
This game helps you master the Exponent rule. In the hierarchy of operations, exponents (powers) are the second highest priority, sitting right below parentheses and above multiplication/division. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.
Check out the following Order of Operations Games/Quizzes for the complete PEMDAS series.
How to play the Order of Exponent Game
Follow the PEMDAS Priority
You must simplify the equation in this specific order:
Parentheses (Innermost first)
Exponents (Powers like x^2)
Multiplication and Division (Left to right)
Addition and Subtraction (Left to right)
Step-by-Step Entry
Unlike a standard calculator, you cannot just type the final answer. You must type the entire expression as it looks after completing exactly one operation.
Example Problem: 5 + (-3) × 2
Your Step: Type 5 + (-6) and press Validate.
Next Step: Type -1.
Clean Notation
Negative numbers that follow an operator are wrapped in parentheses for clarity (e.g., 10 + (-4)). When you type your next step, try to maintain this “clean” look.
Game Modes
Signed Ops (No Exponents)
Focuses on the interaction between addition, subtraction, and multiplication with integers.
Tip: Remember that a negative times a negative is a positive, and a negative times a positive is a negative.
Signed Powers (With Exponents)
This mode adds exponents with negative bases, which is the ultimate test of your sign knowledge:
Even Powers: (-2)^2 = 4 (The negative signs cancel out).
Odd Powers: (-2)^3 = -8 (One negative sign remains).
Controls & Input
Exponents: Use the ^ symbol to indicate a power (e.g., -2^3).
Flexibility: The game will ignore extra spaces or missing parentheses in your input, as long as the numbers and signs are mathematically correct.
Streaks: Every fully solved problem adds to your streak. If you make a mistake in the order or a sign error, your streak resets to 0.
